My name's Justin, and I'm a Buddhist. I take bits from Hindu, and Taoist philosophy as well though. I blog about religion, politics, philosophy, and whatever else I feel like blogging about. I've grown a lot over the years, but I'm still far from where I want to be. If you have any questions then ask away! Don't be shy.

The body is the tree of enlightenment.
The mind is like a clear mirror standing.
Take care to wipe it constantly
And let no dust cling.

Enlightenment is like the moon reflected on the water.
The moon does not get wet, nor is the water broken.
Although its light is wide and great,
The moon is reflected even in a puddle an inch wide.
The whole moon and the entire sky
Are reflected in one dewdrop on the grass.

Before enlightenment: chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment: chop wood, carry water.

Zen Proverb

Enlightenment, in and of itself, changes nothing of historical circumstance; it is merely the negative term. In this specific sense, enlightenment is not eschatologically redemptive. (This opposed to the more naive gloss of, “it would be a difference of intent or “mindset” rather than materiality, of ‘mind over matter’”— as if the two were exclusive of each another.)

Words cannot describe reality. Only direct experience enables us to see the true face of reality.

Happiness does not come from having much, but from being attached to little.

One does not become enlightened by imagining figures of light, but by making the darkness conscious.
